Remembering Great Aboriginal Leaders on 26 Jan

January 30, 2019

On the 26th of January 2019, while much of Australia either protested, celebrated, mourned or commiserated, a group of people gathered at Yarra City's North Fitzroy Library to hear about two Aboriginal men whose contributions to their people - and Australia - are as inspirational today as they were a century or more ago.

William Cooper (Yorta Yorta) and Simon Wonga (Wurundjeri) were Aboriginal leaders who witnessed the sudden and dramatic changes in their lives and culture. They were men who stood strong and serve today as testament to the resilience and adaptability of Aboriginal People.
