One Million Stars To End Violence shines light on violence in our communities

Weaver Maryann Talia Pau is a Samoan-Australian artist and weaver based in the Redland's, Quandamooka Country, Queensland.

Maryann initiated initiated One Million Stars to End Violence in 2012 to shine light on the crisis of gender-based violence after the murder of Jill Meagher in Brunswick Victoria. Inspired by Dr Martin Luther King Jnr’s words of being light and love in our communities, Maryann encouraged people around to weave one million stars as a symbol of a commitment to end ALL forms of violence.

The project has reached far and wide across the world and brought community together here in Australia.

Maryann says even though the instillation has finished that she doesn’t want people to stop making the stars.

There is an instructional video on the website and Maryann says she would love to see your photos and share them on the Facebook page One Million Stars To End Violence.
