First ever National Indigenous Championships in 1988



A proud Aboriginal man with Gunai/Kurnai heritage, Ricky Baldwin competed on the 1988 Victorian Aboriginal men’s representative team, winning a silver medal at the national championships held in Brisbane. So let’s look at a bit of history. This team played in the first ever National Indigenous Championships back in 1988 . Ricky as stated above was selected in the “ First ever Victorian Aboriginal State Basketball team “.

They played the National Championships in Queensland making it to the gold medal game loosing to Queensland who had Australian Indigenous Basketball legend Unc Danny Morsue, Benny Mills ( Patty Father). The Head Coach was Uncle Bill Muir Players were...Charles Williams, Eric Egan, Les Bamblett, Ricky Baldwin, Robbie Baldwin and Shane Charles.
