JESSICA MAUBOY talks the Makarrata Project on Turnt Up Fridays

JESSICA MAUBOY is from the Kuku Yalanji and Walkamin tribes of QLD, she grew up in Darwin, Northern Territory. It all started when she auditioned for Australian Idol in 2006 and rosed to fame signing a record deal with Sony Music Australia. Since then she has had top 30 hit singles, ARIA accredited platinum selling albums, ARIA awards and NIMA awards. She has starred in The Secret Daughter, Bran Nue Dae and The Sapphires. Jess has released her fourth album titled Hilda. Jessica Mauboy joins Hayley MAC on Turnt Up Fridays to have a yarn about her new music, being part of the Makarrata Project and culture.



Jess has not just received musical accolades she has also been awarded the AACTA award and AFCA award for her work in film. Along with many other Indigenous people Jessica features on one of the tracks from Midnight Oil’s Makarrata Project. She collaborated with Midnight Oil and Tasman Keith with the song First Nation. Being passionate about her people she became an ambassador for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation who aim to improve the literacy in remote communities.
