There is an opportunity to drive awareness and understanding that accessing immunisations information in My Health Record can be done easily, whenever, and wherever via desktop or mobile directly.

The changes to the Immunisation view in My Health Record (MHR) include a new consolidated view of immunisation information that supports the Australian Government’s COVID-19 vaccination program. The Australian Digital Health Agency is tasked with improving health outcomes for all Australians through the delivery of digital healthcare systems, and implementing Australia’s National Digital Health Strategy – Safe, Seamless, and Secure: evolving health and care to meet the needs of modern Australia in collaboration with partners across the community. The Agency is the System Operator of My Health Record, and provides leadership, coordination, and delivery of a collaborative and innovative approach to utilising technology to support and enhance a clinically safe and connected national health system. These improvements will give individuals more control of their health and their health information, and support healthcare providers to deliver informed healthcare through access to current clinical and treatment information.

Key messages

• • Awareness that my health information can be accessed via desktop or mobile directly via myGov or viewed by mobile app anytime, anywhere and used to validate immunisation status.

• • Understanding of the benefit in accessing My Health Record to ensure healthcare providers have visibility of pre-existing conditions and medicine history at the time of immunisation.

• • Reinforce the importance of having up to date contact information in My Health Record for notifications, including changes in people’s immunisation information.

Important info. There are two ways to access MHR – directly or via an app.

You need to have linked your My Health Record to your myGov regardless of if you go direct or use an app. It’s important for healthcare providers to have access to as much of your medical history as possible especially if you have never seen them before. This should ideally include what medicines you are taking and if you have an underlying condition or had an adverse reaction or allergy. If you plan on getting immunised this information is critical. Check what information is already in MHR so you can talk to your healthcare providers about uploading missing documents.

Most pharmacies are already automatically uploading dispensed medicine information to My Health Record and with immunisation information being uploaded from the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR), it makes it easier for you and your doctors to ensure you get the best care. The upgrade to My Health Record includes a consolidated immunisation view so people can easily see details of all immunisations, including their first COVID-19 vaccination when it’s received, and if there is a next vaccination due date.

Immunisation information is also available from Medicare Online and the Express Plus Medicare Mobile app. COVID-19 vaccination data is now flowing into My Health Record from all states and territories – as soon as it is reported to the AIR. Providers can access this through their clinician information system (CIS) or National Provider Portal.
