Wiimpatja Healing Centre rehabilitation program for men

Wiimpatja Healing Centre is a rehabilitation program for men who suffer from the use of alcohol and other drugs. Situated in the peaceful Mallee, the residential unit is set on 12 acres of beautiful bushlands where men can go and stay and immerse themselves in their own healing journey with the support of practitioners. The program offers a complete wraparound service through MDAS in the fields of health, AOD counselling, well-being, living skills, short courses and farm activities.



The program caters for short (4 weeks), medium (6-8 weeks) and long term (12 week) programs. Referrals into the program come from corrections, court, justice and self-referral. Services at Wiimpatja ;

Works Program, including general maintenance around the property Life Skills Program, including cooking and cleaning skills TAFE program – working around the horticulture and landscaping sectors Cultural Enrichment Program – including making cultural artefacts, painting and traditional cooking Alcohol and Other Drugs Counselling – this program provided individual one on one counselling with the AOD team from MDAS. Program goals



To learn to be able to live a healthier life, free of Alcohol and Other Drugs To take time to work on health and wellbeing and re-enter the community in a healthy and proactive way. To offer a safe way to work on presenting problems and difficulties away from distractions of the community and to assist and support transition back into the community.



The Cultural Enrichment Program focuses on bringing clients back to their culture through all the aspects of the program.

Raelene Stephens is the Social & Emotional Wellbeing Manager - Health Services for MDAS and Wiimpatja. She yarns with us about the support that Wiimpatja offers men through the program and how mental health, nutrition and wellbeing helps get the fellas on their road to recovery.
