SNAICC's newly appointed CEO Richard Weston takes on the challenges of COVID-19.

Richard Weston is the newly appointed Chief Executive Officer of SNAICC the national voice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children. Richard is a descendent of the Meriam people of the Torres Strait Islands and previously managed the Healing Foundation for nine years.

SNAICC’s advocacy and work in the child protection space includes early childhood education and care centres, the Family Matters campaign and addressing the over-representation of children in out of home care.

The organisation works to harness a good understanding of the needs and issues of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children.

Richard says to improve the lives of our children, our kids need to grow up in vibrant relationships with a happy, healthy childhood. This will set them up for a better chance in life.

For now the SNAICC team are working while in lockdown at home and are keeping the connection with childcare and protection services during the pandemic, they are working with the federal and state governments to stabilise policy.

Something to look forward to is the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day on August 4th, Richard says "It's the light at the end of the tunnel." SNAICC might have to do things differently this year but no matter what they will still be giving out their special Children’s Day bags and celebrating the day. https://www.snaicc.org.au
